Police Officer Dies in Clayton County Accident

A Clayton County accident killed a local officer and left another person with injuries on Monday morning, April 19. The accident involved two vehicles, both of which sustained damage in the crash, according to a Clayton County police report.

One of the drivers was revealed to be an officer with the Clayton County Police Department. Armando Mendoza had been with the department for approximately one year. The report did not indicate if he was on duty at the time of the crash.

By the time officers arrived on the scene, Mendoza had already passed away. He had been seriously injured and did not survive. The other driver was also seriously injured in the crash. He was rushed to the local hospital. There has been no update on the other driver’s condition. The report has also withheld the other driver’s name thus far.

The two-car accident occurred at the intersection of Tara Boulevard and North Main Street in Clayton County. The report of the crash came into the Clayton County Police Department at 9:30 am. They immediately responded to the scene.

Mendoza, who was 22-years old, had first engaged with the Clayton County Police Department with his mother as part of a volunteer event well over a year ago. He decided at that time that he would join the force. Now, a little over a year later, the 22-year-old man has passed away.

The Clayton County accident is still under investigation. The authorities have not indicated that there were any charges pending. They have not stated that there was any indication of alcohol or drugs playing a role in the crash.
