One person died after getting struck by a car near Monarca Ballroom in Bibb County. The auto-pedestrian accident on Hawkinsville Road happened on Tuesday, November 9th. The victim was on the road when the collision occurred.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, just before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, they dispatched deputies to Hawkinsville Road after a report of a stalled vehicle. When the officers arrived, a driver told them that a person was lying on the road.
During the preliminary inquiry, witnesses said the man, identified as Jiu Hau Thang, 43, of Gwinnett County, stood beside the stalled car on the roadway. A passing vehicle, driven by an unnamed female, then struck the man. The sheriff’s office said the woman stopped her car and was uninjured.
Coroner Lonnie Miley pronounced Thang dead at the crash site. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and there is no criminal charge or citation at this time. The sheriff’s office asked those with information about the accident on Hawkinsville Road to contact them at 478-751-7500 to speak with a Fatality Investigator.
Auto-pedestrian accidents are more deadly for a pedestrian than the vehicle driver. This is because a car affords the motorist the protection that the pedestrian doesn’t have. Thus, a pedestrian is prone to catastrophic injuries or death.
A pedestrian who survives a traffic accident can file a compensation claim. If the pedestrian dies, their legal beneficiaries can file an action for wrongful death. Here, they will recover economic and non-economic damages, which also cover funeral and burial expenses.
While it sounds easy, getting compensation may be difficult if the insurance company denies the claim. Thus, it is advisable to work with a Georgia car accident lawyer. Contact Bethune Law Firm today to learn how we can help you.
